Maxine Whitfield

Until age two, Maxine had her parents all to herself. She then took on the role of big sister to fraternal twins. By age five, when her third sibling arrived she was the first to wake up, go into the bedroom, stand tippy toed and sing her a lullaby. At a school function a year or so later, Maxine could be seen with her sister glued to her hip whipping around the playground like a proud mother. In a panic, parents rushed over to help with what appeared to be an overwhelming task for 6-year-old. In no uncertain terms Maxine told them to back off; she was completely confident.

As the years went by, Maxine became known in the neighborhood and at the local school. As her sister put it, “Maxine was always the leader, the organizer, never afraid to take a risk! She was the one who would gather up all the neighborhood kids and arrange a great game. She would think nothing of sneaking out at night up at the lake, walking 3km in the dark and lighting a campfire to cook damper on.” From campfires on the beach to building tree huts without nails, Maxine had an adventurous spirit and an approach to play that other children aspired too.

It was no surprise then that when asked, what do you want to do when you grow up? She said, “be a mother”. Maxine came to America at 19 and although she has not had any children of her own, she has been like a mother to many. Her creative games, caring, fun and laughter ring out from the places Maxine goes! She embraces her career as a professional nanny and continues to thrive in that environment. Children and families are her thing.

Maxine went to college at night for 10 years, while working full-time to get her degree in psychology. She took great pleasure in learning and being a student. She has continued her education by attending seminars, workshops and has a large collection of child related literature on her bookcase at home. Creating a niche for herself she has become, “The Elite Nanny.” Twenty-five years later, I don’t think anyone can deny that when it comes to children and families in the home, Maxine is an authority. Her latest project confirms this. In her unique story of her beginning as a nanny, to her deluxe 5-star position with the stars, Maxine uncovers what it takes to make it to the top of her profession. In her easy to read writing style she has passed on the jewels of her knowledge.

Maxine loves to make people laugh. She is an avid hiker, traveler and nature lover. With a strong connection to her family back in New Zealand and a life in the heart of LA, she has impacted many. If you ever have a chance to observe Maxine’s interactions with children, rush straight over and don’t miss out. She is one of a kind. You got it!  “The Elite Nanny.”
